Common question I am sure. Assassin snails?

Why would someone want to intentionally insert a bunch of MTS into their tank in the first place? I know they have some benefit, but seems like all someone would need to do is purchase some plants and they would have them some. I see ads all the time of folks selling mts and lots of folks are buying them. Is there another benefit in having them that I am not aware of?

MTS are highly sought after for their ability to keep the sand turned. They are especially useful in planted aquariums as it loosens the soil allowing plants to take better root through compacted sand. Currently I am attempting to start a MTS infestation in my 55g but the assassins I bought keep killing off all the MTS I add. But thankfully my LFS gives them away for free so its not that big of a deal.
