I'm brand new. Let's see what we have:

Used (1 year old) 20 gal 'All Glass' with matching wood cabinet/stand- $60
25 lbs gravel, bunch of fake plants, 2 ornaments with good hiding places- $30
Penguin 170, heater, gravel vac, master test kit, dechlor- $47
just ordered Biospira from Bernie- $15

$152 and I don't have any fish yet

On all my tanks I have set up so far, probably close to 7 grand. I have probably 10 tanks set up in my house right now, and all but one of them heavily planted, so figure multiple CF lights on each tank, costs of plants, fertz, co2 gravel, fish, filters, bulbs, powerheads, timers, it goes on and on and on.

Total Cost on 90 gallon, new plants and fish included: $1100

Pressurized CO2 still needs to be bought.

Cost for my 75 gallon, planted, 220watt PC, pressurized CO2, flourite gravel - About $1,000, fish & plants NOT included.

This is my list,

10 gal kit $30
Stand $25
3 bags of gravel $9
River stones ( after gavel got boring) $16
12 plants $48
1 rock with hole $5
Air pump $6
Plastic tubing $2
Bubble stones $2
Water conditioner $2
Test strips $10
Plant bulbs $5
Flourish $5
4 Replacement filters $9 for box of 6
1 Pleco $4
5 goldfish $20 (way to many which leads to duplication of list one minus the water supplies)
Realizing that one of my goldfish is a Koi and how much more room the all need leads to list three.
55 gal $230 W/ heater, lights,dual air pump,ugf, net, gravel
stand $80
Hated the ugf so Emperor 400 $70
More gravel $8
24 pounds of Mexican beach pebbles $24
5 plants the fish ate $20
Surge protector $10
Fish for the ten gal after the other got moved to the 55 $20
Then I have a eclipse in storage that I put $100 into including a gravel vac that I still use. I know there is more stuff that I bought and did not need but can not think for them now. Also I am in the process of getting another tank. But so far around $819 is not bad at all to have spent in one year. For less than half of my old rent for one month I have a great hobby.

Okay, we were at $202.91. As of Saturday, we now have an additional $195.00 for:

20 gallon tank kit (filter, heater, thermometer, tank) - $74
Stand to hold 20 gallon tank - $60
Divider for 10 gallon to house Bill & Jake the Bettas - $10
Gravel for new tank - $20
Plants (fake) for new plant - $10
Two new guppies to live in 5 gallon tank with current guppy - $6
Five cat fish to live in various tanks (one of which already died) - $15

So those two "free" goldfish have now cost us $398!

25gal - $260.5 CAD or $198.94 USD or approximately $8/g USD

Tank, hood, filter, lighting - $170
Live Plants - $12
Gravel - $12
Decoration - approximately $25
Thermometer - $3
Fish - $38.50
- Tiger barbs - 8x$1.50 - $12
- Serpae Tetras - 2x$1.00 - $2
- CAE - 1x$2.50 - $2.50
- Rainbow Shark - 1x$7 - $7
- Common Pleco - 1x$5 - $5
- Bronze Corys - 4x$2.50 - $10

10gal Hex - $127 CAD or $97 USD or approximately $10/g USD

Tank, filter, heater, hood, lights - $90
Gravel - $10
Decorations - $22
Thermometer - $3
Fish - $2
- Zebra Danios - 4x$0.50 - $2

So I have spent around $300 USD on this hobby, but I dont think it will stay that low for long

I bought the following about 2 years ago:
5 1/2 Gallon Kit - $50
Heater - $15
Thermometer - $3
Gravel - $10
Replacement Light Bulbs - $2
Dwarf Frogs, FanTail Goldfish, Sunburst Platies - $25

I bought two more aquariums this past month:
29 Gallon Tank & Wooden Stand Combo - $240
Included: 130 GPH filter, 100W heater, fluorescent hood
Gravel - $20
Decorations - $50
Platies - $5

The filter was inadequate and the heater couldn't keep the tank warm enough so I added the following:
AquaTech 330 GPH filter - $35
Another 100 W Heater - $20

10 Gallon Kit - $30
50W Heater - $15
Two Fluorescent Light Bulbs - $10
Used spare gravel from previous tanks
Decorations - $20
QT'd Platies - $10

Total Cost to Date: $560

Not bad considering it is over a two year period.

My 2 year old 5 1/2 tank was busted yesterday by the cats. They decided to run around and play by the tank.. which resulted in them slamming a solid wood door into the aquarium. Which shattered the front and made 3-4 gallons of water fly out.

Luckily I was able to save the four fish and put them in the 10 Gallon Tank for QT.

Now I have the following spare items not in use because of the aquarium incident:
130 GPH HOB Whisper Filter
100 GPH HOB Whisper Filter
50W Hang on Back Heater <-- haven't tested it yet.. it might have died after the cats broke the tank and left it not submersed.

My 2 year old 5 1/2 tank was busted yesterday by the cats.
Bad kitties!! :nono: :cat: :cat:

$398 CAD (with GST) for 50 gal tank and stand, plus some "river stone" gravel, and two large fake plants.
TIME that my fiancé spent reinforcing the stand
$14--The fish cost was minimal since we moved everyone from the 29 gal (and we used the same plants, driftwood, small gravel, a heater that came from somewhere!...)
$100 for 304 Fluval.

$498 CAD = ~377.90 USD

It's not very impressive since I recycled a ton of stuff from the 29 gal. Oh well, the real total may give me a coronary!

Setup of 120 gal rift.

120gal tank and split glass top,
Ehime 2217 filter
Emperor 400 filter
2 ebo Jagar 150watt heaters
120 pounds of silica sand and cichlid mix and egg crate.
rocks(free, magically migrated into tank)
background
DIY stand, DIY lighting, DIY moon lighting.
electronics(2 timers and ground fault circuit)
Residents, food, testkits

Total expenses are hovering just below the 2000$cdn mark.
probably go over soon, waiting to add an AquaClear 500 if they ever go on sale. :?

Oh, I just found my receipts for the 10 gal Hex tank for my Badis!

$97 for the 10 gal hex tank (with heater and filter)
$17 for an Ebo-jager heater
? for a bio miniwheel (it was laying around)
$15 for gravel
$13 for bubble wall
$15 for air pump (we had extra air hose from the move)
$3 for some sort of thing to make sure water does not get backed into the air pump
$15 for a bubble wall that works better
$9 for a gaint fake fern plant
$40 for 6 Badis badis
$6 for a butterfly loach
$9 for 5 pygmy cats

@ $244 CAD (I tried to do the math in my head!) I'm not going to play this game anymore--fish are EXPENSIVE!!
