Crackling Filter

Hey guys, so my tank has been up and running for about 4 months now, and I upgraded filters yesterday. I originally had the tetra whisper and I upgraded to the fluval c2. They are currently running side by side until the new one is seeded. However, the new filter is making a very strange crackling/popping sound. Does anyone know what this sound may be? Is this normal for a new HOB? Or should I exchange it for a different one?

Well, after tinkering with it, it turns out it was the ceramic bead things. When I took them out the sound stopped. So my guess is that there was some air bubbles trapped in them that were popping. It stopped after I shook the bead tray under water and put it back in place.
