Google searches prove fruitless on how this plant (crinum calamistratum) grows. I have been trimming it like hair. Trimming algae off it thinking it will slowly grow back like hair. I'm unsure if my theory is correct. Can anyone who has grown this plant let me know if this is possible? Thanks.

I had two plants of it for a long time and if they got any algae I would spot treat it with Hydrogen peroxide. I remember cutting a few stands a bit and ended up cutting them off completely when they never grew. Which is why I started using peroxide if needed.

Can you elaborate on your technique? This is a plant I would try to physically/chemically remove the algae from the leaves as much as possible. If you need to cut it though, you can take scissors to the base of each leaf. I don't know that I would "mow" it necessarily though.
