Hello,

I've currently got a 55G marine tank set up and am thinking of changing to freshwater. The only reason is that freshwater seems far cheaper to run, but in reality I think my heater (300w) is the most expensive bit.

Looking for any tips, advice, articles, suggestions, differences etc to help my decision.

Thanks.

Once it is up and running, my saltwater is only slightly more expensive than fresh. I mean of course the fish and especially corals can make the tank cost a LOT more, but once in they don't cost a whole lot to maintain really.

To be honest I get the feeling that's the case. My main cost is the heater. Having said that I can add a lot more smaller fish from freshwater and much less cost for a more 'active' aquarium.

In a 55 gallon, that is surely the case, a 55 limits your fish choice and quantityin SW, so a 55 gallon FW could net you a larger and more active community.
