Ok so I started to cycle my 120 gal. sand substrate (sand color), had 2 48"flourescent bulbs (pretty crappy light quality). Just went out and bought a 48"-60" Marineland Reef Capable LED 3340 Lumens. I also went out and got 2 48" black light flourescent bulbs. Got one black light in the front, LED light in the middle and the other blacklight in the back. When the LEDs are on the blacklight does nothing. When I put the blue LEDs on with the Black light.... WOW, its like another world!!!!!

the Cycle- Slow going so far. put ammonia in Saturday night and I tested today and its somewhere between 2 and 4. BTW, can they make those cards any harder to distiguish between 2 numbers? The hardest part so far is figuring out if its at 2 or 4.
Ill play it safe and wait another night!

Using the API test kit? I agree those colors drove me insance. This calculator will tell you how much to dose: Calculator As long as it's at least 2 and not higher than 4 you should be good. It can take 1-2 weeks for the initital ammonia drop so try not to get discouraged.

Yep, API... My head was spinning trying to figure out the color. I decided better safe then sorry. I did use the calculator you just linked. Worked like a charm.
So is this an API issue or a chemistry issue with the virtually identical color? Gotta be something they can do.
Thanks LG
