yah go Dwarfs i just bought one too theyre awesome!!! heres my baby honey dwarf gourami

So today havnt lost any fish. Did a water test amonia cycle is confirmed its at 2. Ph at 7.8, nitrite at .25, and nitrate at 5.0... I also took 2 bio bags with carbon, tied them up with a rubber band and stuffed them behind the backround. I want to give a space for bacteria to grow back there as it is basically a big air filter. I also added a bag of carbon to the substrate up front for the plants, i think it gives the tank a nice speckled black look.fish are as happy as little chipmunks though the golden gourami is chasing people around. Next to bob hes the biggest in tank so kinda expected.

Note to self: im looking at getting fluval bio rings to put behind background also. And led lights found on amazon wish list "fish list"

Your ammonia is at 2? Thats too high, you should do a 50% change now and then another 50% in a couple of hours to bring it back to 0.5 which is in the 'habitable' levels. If you dont do it now its going to be 3 or 4ppm before you know it and your fish will be dead.

Will do thnx

How? If it was at 2ppm and you did a 50% it would be at 1ppm. Then the other 50% would of taken it to 0.5, its that simple.

Lol i did 30% water change. Not a full 50.. Haven't you ever noticed that milky cloud in you're tank during the first step of matureing cycle... Guess what that cloud is. Simply do the water change from the top where that cloud is and most of the amonia will be gone.

Though its good to also know i do all my tests from the water in centermost part of the tank, so i swear on a stack of bibles test is accurate.

I know you did a 30% change.. I was doing the calculations using 50% because it made for an easier explaination. Well it doesnt matter, if your tests are accurate and your ammonia is indeed 0.5 you dont have anything to worry about... I didnt post to contradict you, merely to give advice.

There a reason thats worth mentioning... Because there are so many air bubbles it the water they push everything up... I cant get a good pic of it... But on the far right where the output valve is the white stuff is there top to bottom, but further left (away from out put) is where all the ammonia is pushed up as the current is less intense and all the little bubbles sorta congregate. I did another test on diff areas of the tank to confirm my nerdy suspicions, the tests seem to confirm my hypothesis.

Also By increasing the specific gravity (adding salt) gives ammonia buoyancy, because the ammonia cant fully dissolve/diffuse into the water as easily and the molecular mass of salt is higher then ammonia... I take chemistry in collage and learned all this technical stuff.
