Ok just a few mintues ago on my way outside to wait for my bus I looked at my tank like always but this morning my snail were all on my clam some were in it's mouth. So I reached in and tried to save him but I was to late. Is this normal for snails or is it just certain kinds of snails.

Snails are scavengers like most of your CUC. Its a common misconception when members of the CUC are found eating another member of the tank that they killed it. My guess is the clam died of other causes and they were just doing their job.
