Diatoms and lighting

Does lighting contribute to the growth of diatoms or are silicates/phosphates in tap water the only contributors?

Good question....let opinions start. Silicates are perhaps the most prevalent element on earth. I believe they are more an issue in low par. But overall light and photo period have little impact. That is my belief.

Still thinking Mostly I've seen threads focus on removal of silicates. In one thread, a substrate cap of something (dirt?) added on original sand substrate ended months of diatoms.

I don't think of seen a thread experiment.
