So i wanted to build my algae scrubber a long time ago, but I never got around to it. I finally finished it 2 weeks ago. So far the growth has been really good. Algae has just about covered the screen. I made it out of a sterilite plastic drawer, and it is gravity fed straight from my overflow. The screen is from a roll I bought from home depot, and I laid it on a piece of glass. The water exits the algae scrubber through a bulkhead and empties into my sump. Lighting is 2 phillips CFL bulbs at 2700 K. They say they are 100 W equivalent but actual wattage (i think) is 28 W each. I know horizontal isn't as efficient as vertical and double sided, but since it is glass, the lights shines though and algae grows every where in the box.
