DIY Lighting

My friend wants to replace his standard fluorescent hood that comes stock with tank kits and up the lighting to grow some plants. He currently has a 20 gallon tank. I bought my lighting, but he wants to see if there's a more economical way to get the lighting done, whether it would be to convert the existing lighting fixture or build his own. He's not the most handy, so I'm not sure what you guys would suggest.

Just go to lowe's and buy there plant bulb. Maybe use a shop light also.

you could retro fit the hood for screw in bulbs and use cfl bulbs.
