Doesn't it stand to reason that if your coral and fish are thriving in your coastal areas with salinity lower than the salinity North America is used to, then you should not be trying to raise the salinity of your sea water?
It makes sense to keep the salinity the same in your tanks as in the sea where you got them. No offense to all out there, but this seems to be the case. Looks like your fish and coral were doing well before you tried to raise the salinity to textbook level.
