Do i clean my bioscrubber.

My filter I have for my 20 gallon has a bioscrubber. I believe that's what its called. Do I clean this. It's filled with muck but I heard that this all the benificial bacteria. Do I still clean it. A picture is attached.

The muck is not beneficial bacteria. Remove it by washing in tank water. Beneficial bacteria will be tightly adhered to the matrix, and all that muck inhibits their ability to do their job.
