I hate those starter kits bc they always come with a really cheap filter and hood. Id rather buy my own. And also at the $PG sale my 30 gallon was $30 but the hood was around $50. Craigslist is your best bet for a real bargain
You could get them to fill it up for you, or have it running, or whatever. Check the seals for damage and inspect the tank really well for cracks, etc.
I agree with jeta that classified ads are best. I got my 55 with filter and hood and heater for 100 bucks here in Canada but I'm gonna run two filters in it.
