Does driftwood make your tank filthy?

I added driftwood about a month ago. I vacuum the gravel once a week. I like to take about three or four buckets out at a time. I hadn't vacuumed under the driftwood that I can remember yet. OMG! I couldn't believe what came out.

This is not a big piece of driftwood. When I added it, I had soaked it overnight and it never turned my tank brown.

Mulm will accumulate under driftwood and if not removed periodically, can build up to immense proportions. I don't have to imagine what you observed, I've seen it personally. :D
 
i get that too, especially with 3 plecos who love to eat that wood you can just imagine how much piles up
 
Yeah, I was ready for my water to turn brown, but it never did. I'm going to change one filter cartridge today. I think it needs it.
