Hello! I noticed a small puffy bump on my goldfish. That part is where his scales are red. It seems that he's eating normally and swimming normally, but sometimes swim very fast around the tank for a few seconds. He sometimes sinks to the bottom and stays there for a few seconds. He is about 4-5 years old. Please help me. Im very worried!

Thank you,
Nina

Yes it looks like it. It could be a number of things. Likely it is low water quality sparked by a GF producing large amounts of ammonia and eating lots of food which can create more ammonia from uneaten food.

GF have issues like Septicemia more often because of often being in a too small tank, inadequate filter and uncycled filter.

People, so often, just don't really understand what is needed to take care of them. Sales associates often are undertrained or just don't have the resources to know enough to give proper advice.

There are gram positive and gram negative bacteria which can be killed by certain types of meds and usually a med will treat /kill one type but not the other.

Septicemia diseases are most that I know gram negative. There are a couple very serious infections so make sure to follow all the directions on the meds and do the maximun number of days the meds list to make sure there is the most chance possible for the bacteria to ALL be killed and not leave any stronger ones alive to just reinfect the fish.

Marycin 2 treats gram neg. Kanaplex.

What is the water temp?

Add an air bubbler to get the oxygen increased .

Clean the tank. Vac the substrate and get out any muck.

Get Prime water changing conditioner.

What are the gallons of your tank and how many GF of how many inches are in there?

Do you know about cycling the tank and the nitrification process? Is your tank cycled? Please check out the article from Aquarium Advice, getting started, in my signature.

It is aermonoas probably? Treat with gram negative antibiotic such as maracyn-2, kanamycin, or oxytetracycline.

Autumsky,

Thank you for the info and suggestions.

I recently went to a pet store. I talked to a specialist, who told me that it could also be because of the fish rubbing against the tank. Sadly there was no maracyn or Kanaplex, so I bought "Tetra - Lifeguard All-in-one treatment, attacks a broad range of external fish disease - bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic including ick".

I went home and I realized my fish's scales were peeling off on both sides and his scales were changing color. The swelling he had "popped" (I attached a picture). Instead of swimming around, he just stays toward the upper area.

There are 2 other fish with him in a tank of 20 gallons. Both of them are about 3 - 4.5 inches.

I do not know about the nitrification process, and yes, the tank is cycled. The water is approximately 23.88 Celsius (75 farenheit).

Once again, thank you! Stay in touch!http://imgur.com/a/9bMvX
