I found a few very nice pieces of driftwood in my backyard that my mom kept from hikes. My question is, is it safe to put these in my soon to be planted tank? I plan on boiling them for as long as needed. Does anyone have experience doing this? I don't want to spend the ridiculous amount that my lfs charges for some wood I can find outside.

Thanks in advance!

Ok so I took three photos of each piece of wood. The first piece of wood is my favourite and the smallest. The biggest piece of wood is really nice but not sure how I would boil that or if it will fit yet.

Just boil to get the bugs out- you'll be surprised what floats out !
I paid 100 bucks for similar wood

Ok Thanks for your help! It's from a family members back yard actually. I will boil and boil and boil lol. It will be well worth the wait and I know it's crazy how much it can cost!

So I found another piece of drift wood that's really nice. Only thing is may be too nice lol. I'm not sure which one i want to use in my tank now. The original piece was 25" long and the new piece is 41" long. Ill attach some photos of my favourite small piece that I just tossed in my cycling 15g for now. Also attached will be a photo with the two large pieces in front of the tank. Tell me what you guys think and what you like better.

You hit the dw jacpot....wow nice job collecting.....you could collect extra and post pics on AA and make a little change...I am a potential....hmmmm

Ill buy what ever you don't want !! Jackpot dude !! Very Nice !!! Those bigger pieces will be awesome, the little pieces would be good for a cichlid tank

Thanks for the help I have the original piece soaking in a large Rubbermaid. The larger 41" piece is too large to soak in the Rubbermaid so maybe have to use the tub we will see. With all the interest on just those pieces it makes me consider selling some or looking for some more pieces. I'm just not really sure how shipping would be as I live in Canada. Perhaps in the spring or when it's not freezing out ill look for some more to sell.
