When we choose or collect driftwood,we consider only those parts below trunks or anything other??

optimally you want to find atractive piece of hard wood that has already had the bark removed from water erosion
It should be dense and not easily marred or break apart .if it is already watter logged that could be a plus .
Some people boil it some soak it in water with frequent water changes to leach the tannins out.There are some you tube videos that are all most helpful

Hello!

You don't have to use roots. I've used branches. Just make sure you can't press your fingernail into the wood. If you can, it will eventually rot. Be sure to boil the wood very well to get any nasty stuff living in it out. Some also sun dry it as well.
