They would need a bubbler or some other form of putting air into the water.

A few extremely short term maybe. More than a day and you're going to be running into ammonia toxicity issues.

Couldn't you do water changes?

i dont think you should try it. only for about a day or two, but i would do 2 water changes if not more per day until you can get them a proper home
