Feeding hammer coral

Is feeding my branching hammer coral worth the affect it could have on my nitrates? How big of a difference does it make in growth?

I have a 15 year old hammer that is 10 times bigger than what he started out being. I have never target fed him. He gets all he needs from the lighting and water column.

I never feed any of my corals seems my clowns do it for me , everything grows ok by itself and what little the fish bring to it , it's almost like they think it's there job , but most coral don't need to be spot fed but like anything every little bit helps ,
