Filter died so had to get a new one

My penguin bio filter died so I had to purchase a new one. I put filter media from the old in the new to keep the beneficial bacteria in the tank. Question is how long should I leave the old filter media in so the bacteria can be good the new filter? I really don't want to lose any fish because if this. Thanks

I'd just leave the old in there in case you ever need to seed another tank. If not, probably a month would do.
