Filter gunge, Trickle filter

Did a wc on Thursday, when I put the filter pump back on, all this brown gunge came out in to my tank, had to do another, so my question is, if I leave my filter matt loaded with bb can I clean out the rest, IE noodles and the rest, without causing a spike.............

Providing that you clean your filter media with tank water you should not get a spike. The trick is not to over clean it, just enough to remove the grunge. I don't know how your outlet is configured but after a filter clean I collect the first few pints of water pumped out in a plastic bag, collecting the initial out flow of debris, and then bin it.
