filter media

my 30 gal. tank has been up and running for 8 months with 25lbs. LR. and 30 lbs. of LS. coral growth, on the LR. and the back and side walls I would like to know if I can take the filter media pads out of my power filter it's a supreme, model 400-299. when do I know if my tank is ready to work on it's own.

How many fish and what size are they?

Just as a clarification the coral growth your probably refering to is coraline algae.

I have a fiji damsel, yellow tail damsel, a saeba clown and a blue cromis, 4 blue leg hermits and 3 turbos
