I currently have a Tetra Whisper 2-10 internal power filter that I got in a cheap 10 gal. starter kit to raise fry. It doesn't have a real high flow rate and the intake slots look pretty narrow. Do I need to put a sponge over the intake or is it small enough?

Hello Minnesota...

The small Whisper filters aren't very powerful. The fry should be safe without making any changes to the filter.

Actually, if you feed your adults a little more and a little more often and heavily plant the surface of the main tank with Hornwort, you an easily keep all the fish together. It's been my experience with Livebearing fish anyway, that well fed adults seldom bother the fry.
