Filter upgrade

Im looking at changing my fluval 105 to a 305 on my 4ft turtle/fish tank as i am up to around 20 fish in there now and the turtles make alot of waste as well, am i right in thinking that as long as i put as much of the old media in the new filter i will avoid any problems with cycles etc?

Yes. You may see a small spike up but nothing a few particial water changes can't easily control. If you want to be really safe add a carbon bag for the first two weeks.
