you dont need to drill the tank for a sump, you can always just get a hang on overflow. I love the idea of sumps cause you can keep all your equipment in there and not have to stare at it.

If you want to stick with a canister I recommend the Fluval FX5.

I can't use a hang on overflow as I don't have an open top tank. It has a solid wooden lid with glass sliders to stop evaporation.

I think the fx5 is the way to go.
