Fine filter media

Good morning,

I have an otherwise healthy, cycled platy tank that has a lot of very tiny 'bits' floating around in it. My filter currently contains a foam block and ceramic media.
I just wanted to ask a question about fine filter media. What is good to use? Where in the filter should it be placed? Are there any houshold items you can use on a budget?

You could go to a hobby/craft shop and get polyester batting. I picked up a pillow sized bag for about $5. Just make sure there are no flame retardants or other additives in the material.
You could place it between the sponge block and ceramic media. Replace it every few weeks. I eventually got rid of the sponge and just use the fluff and ceramic media now.
