Firemouth "gasping"/gilling rapidly

I just added a new firemouth to my 20 gal tank today. The firemouth is about 2"-2.5" and lives with a 2.5" salvini. I noticed that the firemouth seems to be gasping or gilling rapidly. I have tried an air stone for a while, and I think oxygen is not an issue, the salvini seems to be fine. What could be wrong with the firenouth, and what should I do to fix the rapid gasping?

First off the tank is to small for either of them. Second the salvini will kill the firemouth most likely. You either need to get a bigger tank or take them back.
