first shell tank help

I just got into the fish hobby and started with basic comunity fish tanks but now want to expand my fish variaty. So i wanted to try ciclids i always was intresded in them. So i did some research and i want to start with shell dwellers because they look cool and i think they will be good for a beginer. But i will probly get a 29g or 40g both tanks are longer than taller which is good because shellies like surface area. So what are some begginer shellies to start with and what are some general cilid care tips for me dont worry still got a lot more reasherch to do...
