I'm just starting my tank and was told that my shark would be good with anything bigger than it. Right now in my tank I have:1 kuhli loach, 1 redtail shark, 5 neon tetras, 4cherry barbs, 2 golden rams, and 2 upside down catfish. Is this too much? And will they all be ok with the shark? (20 gallon tank)

This does sound like a lot of fish for a 20 gallon. You should at least have 5 kuhli loaches. And what kind of shark is it?

Its a red tail shark

It really depends. They are labeled as semi aggressive. They will outgrow your tank and probably bully your neons. But it really depends on how aggressive the red tail turns out to be.

At each fishes full size, you are over stocked and would be much better off with a 30- 55 gal. With regard to the shark they are semi aggressive and will probably rule the tank. But never add more then 1 red tail shark as the weaker one will be killed by the stronger.
