Fish wound, how do i treat it?

Penguin tetra injured left fin badly and I'm unsure on what to do and how. I uploaded a pic to show what's wrong.

How was it injured? The best thing is clean water and maybe Melafix. If it gets fuzzy, it's infected.

Agreed, PWC's .. Maybe add some aquarium salt ... But with an otherwise healthy clean water should do it. Add meds if there's an infection as mentioned.

should i seperate him first then apply meds? and if yes, where would i put him if i dont have a hospital tank and for how long. the reason being that i have plants and shrimp and i dont want to add something that could harm them

Don't use meds unless the injury starts to get fuzz on it. Just in case, I would look into a temporary hospital tank.
