Cycling my tank with a raw shrimp and I was just wondering how long it usually take sfor the shrimp to start decaying? Been about 5 days and there is still no ammonia readings.

How big is the tank and how big is the shrimp? If it's just a little popcorn shrimp in a 90 gallon tank it may not show up very well I'm thinking. Plus do you have the heater cranked up? High heat can speed up the decay process.

It's a 75 gallon with a large shrimp and the temperature is at 80

Mine took about 5-6 days to start showing on the test kit. What kind of test kit are you using.

I tried doing this for my 150G, I had as many as 8 large shrimp in there for over 2 weeks and never saw an ammonia reading. I started adding pure ammonia (I could only find it at Ace Hardware) and within 8 days, the shrimp decomposed and the tank was cycled.
