My friend cycled his 20 gallon with a shrimp from the store. It made his whole house smell like a rotten red lobster. Is there any way to cycle without the stench?

Or just LR. Or with some flakes or frozen food. I've done the LR only on a 20 and it works just fine.

Use carbon.

When I did the raw shrimp. I bought two boxes of pure baking soda and left them on both sides of the tank. That will take away most of the smell... Pure baking soda is like a buck a box. And then I bought some little house air freshener and that works pretty well.
