Floating hornwort

Hi I recently bought 2 bunch's of hornwort. I read that it does better floating so I took the weight off it and in bunched it and dispersed it into several tanks. Is it ok like this ? Thank you.

Hornwort is a floating plant, never does put out roots. If you leave the weight on it it will eventually rot at that point.

Yeah i noticed when i took the weights off it was pretty messy at the bottom. Got 5 tanks now with a bit anchored by suction cups at the top of the water now

That doesn't look like hornwort. Might try a closer photo for a better ID.

See if this one is any better . Im new to plants and nothing wad labeled nor did anyone at the pet store know what it was. Tha ks for the help .

Looks like a mixture of plants. I think I see egeria najas, narrowleaf anacharis, and possibly rotala nanjenshan (not sure).

Here is a better pic when it was all bunched up . I have since planted it under the substrate. I think you were right about it being rotala

If you look closely on the top pic on the right side, there's a stem facing the camera that is a darker shade green than the others. That looks like narrowleaf anacharis.
