Floating plants?

I saw where someone is selling floating plants for aquariums. How does that work with lighting? I understand using floating plants for ponds, but how do the plants underneath the floating plants get light?

I have dwarf water lettuce and duckweed in my 60g, and since I have high light, I just keep the floating plants controlled so they float over the area where I have low light plants, so the low light plants dont grow algae and such from the higher light plants...but some light does go through the floating plants but it does create a very shaded area in the tank
