I used these in my tank's first incarnation. Then after I lost my fish and had to start over, I switched the plastic out for planted right before adding my fish.

This rock measures 8 (tall) x 12 x 9" so it takes up a good chunk of room. It serves well as a nice cave for hiders. There is small hole at the top that I always plugged up so my fish wouldn't swim in there (whole thing is hollow).
The driftwood is 8" x 12" and has holes.

Here's how it all looked, minus the driftwood, in my tank before I took out and put in real plants.
