Freshwater Clams

I wanted to ask about these because I looked them up once upon a time ago, and wanted to see if anyone kept these?

They even sell them on Live Aquaria.

I once read that someone never did any water changes with a combo of these and plants, etc. Not sure if I believed it though.

I have 3, they really need a well established tank to thrive and I feed mine plankton like for saltwater.
