Glass top question

Sorry if this a noob question but i'm setting up a low light planted dirt tank, and my tank has a glass top that the lights sit on. Will that top restrict/reflect any of the light or do anything negative as far as plant growth is concerned. Its not a big deal if it is bad ill just do some jerry rigging to keep my lights out of the water.

A glass top will cut down the par or light penetration in most cases. What type of light? T8?

No its not set up yet, just doing a bunch of research and getting all the pieces together. Ill probably just put some guppies in there, something easy.
