Gravel/substrate substitute. Red claw crab and ghost shrimp.

I have bags on bags of broken sea shells from hurricane Irma and I was wondering if I could use those as the gravel and substrate for either my red claw crab or my ghost shrimp. I would clean them by boiling them and possibly rinsing with vinegar before putting them in the tanks. I know crabs need a lot of calcium and to my understanding, shells have loads of it. Thank you in advance!!

As for the shrimp the alkalinity would probably kill them
as for the crab Id be weary
