I’m stumped. In the last three days, I’ve had a green slimy algae attack on my plants. It has nearly encased one of my floating plants. The only changes in the last 8 days since the water change are:

1. I added a sponge prefilter over my intake valve on a Fluval 50 HOB because I bought some trapdoor snails. The outflow is set to its highest output.
2. I reduced the red LED on my Fluval from around 45% to 10%.
3. I live on the Ohio River several hundred miles downstream from the New Palestine train derailment. My local water company did not say they altered chemicals in our water because of it.

My readings 5 days ago were ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate 10. All the fish are fine, but I’m losing my mind. It’s a 29 gallon tank that’s been up for five years. I’ve got 50 years in the hobby and I’m at a loss.
