I was sold this fish as a green terror but I'm starting to think other wise. He's very slow growing compared to all my other fish.

A green terror I'm pretty sure.

But some people say a "true" green terror has white on the edges of their fins but both orange or white they are still green terrors.

Green Terror for sure. Actually a rivulatus to be exact.
Some people say stalsbergi are the "true green terror" and they call rivulatus "gold saum" which just means gold seam. LFs order forms are starting to call them "royal green terros" which will further add to the confusion.

All are green terrors IMO since Green Terror is a common name and both stalsbergi and rivulatus went by Green terror since the 80's. Read up on the history you will see where the confusion comes in and it is quite interesting.

Green Terrors are extremely slow growers (slowest growing fish I have owned) waiting for them to turn into the beautiful monsters you see online is like watching paint dry IMO.
