Hello!
My spouse and I recently decided to get some fish. I've never had much experience in this area, but he worked at a chain pet store as a teenager. I'm sure you can guess where we might've gone wrong.
Unfortunately we are about nine days into a fish-in cycle. Of course I anxiety googled everything once I figured out our mistake then went on a massive same day shopping spree, so hopefully we have what we need to be successful!
We currently have 3 albino corys, 6 ember tetras and a (female) betta, plus several live plants in a 20 gallon freshwater tank. I'm aware that it's still overstocked for a cycle and have been considering whether moving the tetras to a smaller tank (we have a 6 gallon vertical tank, currently empty) for a while would be beneficial. I just recently learned that this cycling should be done with fewer fish and have been trying to make sure that I know the best way to go about things before I make another move.
So far everyone seems happy enough. I've been seeking out likely resources to help me care for them better and this place has already taught me a few things today. I'm glad to be here! I just want happy, comfortable fish. They're so darn cool and I need to be a good fish parent!
