I would run the lights as one continuous loop that mazes around the hood.
 
Make sure you buy the one with the specs I listed in a previous post if you decide to get that led. Just use electrical tape. :)
 
The red-green blue are cool but I much prefer the 6500K. I have a 4 year old, the last thing I need is a remote and the ability to do crazy things with the lights! LOL. Poor fish. I'm intensely picky about the color of the light (even my house is exclusively "Reveal" bulbs), so knowing it's 6500K is most important to me. Along with the details of how it's made. The guy is honest too about how to make it water safe.

I can't thank you enough for all the help. I was really thinking just adding about 5' would be a huge boost to the light range.
