I've been reading about some cichlids and others. This is for my new 55G tank, PH is 8.0, want to have plants. I have clay pots and plan to find some flat rock to make more hiding spots.

So I see lots of info since there are virtually tons of cichlids.

This is what I'm looking into:
1. Angel's (pair) Species Profiles -- Cichlid-Forumhttp://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/south-american-cichlids/angelfish/100118.asp

2.BolivianRams(pair)Species Profiles -- Cichlid-Forumhttp://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/south-american-cichlids/bolivian-ram/100050.asp

3. Kribs(pair) Species Profiles -- Cichlid-Forumhttp://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/cichlidae/kribensis/100036.asp

4. Cockatoo Apistos (pair) Species Profiles -- Cichlid-Forumhttp://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/south-american-cichlids/cockatoo-dwarf-cichlid/100079.asp

5. Something for the algae like bristlenose pleco or 4 Ottos, or maybe just 5 Corries, Maybe Yo-Yo loaches

Also point out a schooling fish that would be OK with these or say how you would stock it.

Heres a couple things I was trying to take notes from:

HELP!

Thanks in advance

I would just choose 2 pair of the Dwarf Cichlids (bolivians, kribs, apistos). Of the 3 Kribs and Apistos are probably more aggressive than Bolivians, so I'd probably go with either one of those and the Bolivians. A 55g is big, but not big enough for 3 pairs IMO. Definitely make sure you have some caves and other hiding spots.

Cories and Loaches don't eat algae, but they are bottom feeders, so fall in the same category as the BN and Otos. :)

I wouldn't choose Yoyos. I had issues with them bullying and nipping my angelfish. They are said to be aggressive and I experienced that. It got worse as they got bigger. They were probably 5.5" when I got rid of them.

Cories are super peaceful. They'd be fine with a Bristlenose, Otos, or both. If you want it pretty heavily planted, I would just have 1 BN as they can be kind of clumsy and knock some plants over. Mine liked to dig too. :D Otos stay hidden alot, but they eat alot of soft brown and green algae.

Hmm, there are alot of schooling fish that would work. You'd want something non-nippy and something that uses the top 2/3 of the tank IMO. Black Neons, Lemon tetras, Flame tetras, or maybe Pristella tetras. I'm planning a similar tank (75g with Apistos, possibly Bolivians and maybe a single Angel, black neon tetras, and cories). Black Neons, while they lack color, school nicely in large groups. I've never kept them, but look forward to getting some.

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much!

I went to the 2 LFS today to look around. I can get Bolivians, Kribs, angels, BN Pelco, Ottos, corries, a couple varieties of tetra's.

Depending on how it goes I think I'll skip the Kribs and try the Apistos and maybe bolivians from aquabid.

I planned on getting the Angel/s last(may just get 1 now that you mention it).

I'm going to look at the small schooling fish as thats going to be my 1st stock and I want to get it locally(I think?)

So 2 Apistos, 2 Bolivian rams, 1 BN Pelco, 1-2 Angels, 5 corries? then

So whats a good number of the tetras you mentioned, since I want to get these 1st. Like 10 sound good?
