I just bought a 10 gallon tank, some white sand, some rocks, and a few plants. After putting it together, I feel that I could do better. I am new to this, so I don't know what plants I bought, or the correct way of going about setting this up. My goal is to have a nice planted landscape and a school of neons, maybe a few other fish and/or bottom feeders. I was looking at the gallery and really liked this guys setup! http://www.aquariumadvice.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5054&cat=543&page=10
So far I did a PH test which came out at 6.5. Don't neons like it higher? I think I read somewhere that the sand might be causing the PH to be so low. I would like a more natural look, but would prefer not to go with a brown substrate. The link above looks to have a black colored substrate which looks nice. I also like the look of the "grassy" foliage. Here is a picture of what I setup today. I will be returning the hood/filter because both are made like crap. I am thinking of ordering a Marineland Eclipse 1 hood for the tank. Let me know what I could do! Good substrate/planting/neon tips please!!! Thanks!
