help with set up

the stand finally came in!! picked it up and have started setting up the tank.
Emperor 400 filter- how far above the gravel should the strainer/intake be- going to use the mid level intake so I will need to cut the extension tube.
heater- what is the preferred location?
its a 48" long 55 gallon tank

A few inches above the substrate should be sufficient. I have my heater in the center of the tank, that way the heat gets distributed more evenly; if it's positioned next to the filter that will also help the heat to disperse throughout the tank. A thermometer on one front corner of the tank is a good thing to have so you can double-check the temperature.
