After adding tetra water clarifier water became cloudy which I know is expected. But when I woke up the next day it became so cloudy I could barely see any fish or the back of the tank. Tested the water and everything was fine except the ammonia jumped extremely high. Added ammo lock then fish started to die! What am I doing wrong?!

Not absolutely sure could be a couple different things going on.

Read this article to learn more about good fish keeping.

Ammonia is toxic to fish and a reason they would likely be dying.

A cloudy tank would mean a bacteria bloom which would be from too much orgainics in the water like food, fish waste.

Do a couple pwc with dechlorinated temperature matched water. Say 2 50% pwc within about an hour of each other.

Get your water tested and a water test kit like API.

It is likely you do not have a cycled tank. Which means the beneficial bacteria has not developed sufficiently to process the waste / ammonia in the tank.

You would be doing a "fish-in" cycle which means you will need to make sure the water is safe for fish.

Read the linked articles in the one I posted which are fish in cycling and
