I just read that if you try to breed convict cichlids in a bare bottom tank, that they'll either end up injuring themselves or killing each other

Is this information accurate ?

No this is not true
I have breed them in a bare bottom tank they just breed in a corner.

Convicts will breed anywhere they can! They are like rabbits in this area lol

Heck, Convicts bred for me at the Petstore in the sales tank with kids banging on the glass !! They'd have the rest of the fish shoved to one side, but they were guarding fry. The Guppies of the Cichlid World LOL ( but even easier ).

i breed a pair in a 10 gallon bare bottom tank. theres a rock with a hole in it and they breed rite there every time. fry are great food for my angel fish
