Evidently all Home Depot sand isn't the same. I'm getting things together to switch tanks from 55 to 75 gallon. I went to the same Home Depot where I had previously gotten the pool filter sand I used in my 55. I noticed that it was a lot finer grain than before and was also more brown in color. It was almost like dirt and even had some small gravel in it. I went ahead and started washing it anyway. After attempting to was around 10 lbs for 45 minutes it became apparent that this definitely wasn't the same stuff. The sand I had gotten before easily washed out and once done quickly settled if stirred up. The bag I got this time just wasn't the same. Guess I'll be visiting a different HD to see what I can find.

The sand I used was from a pool store, very white and needed some light rinsing. I didn't even know Home Depot had filter sand.

Yep, they sell it. The bag I got when I set up my 55 is nice and white and larger grain. The bag I just picked up from the same store is a lot browner, smaller grain and really "dirty". I gave up on trying to wash that bag. The texture was more like mud. I guess the whole point of my post was to let others know what I ran into so they don't waste time and money. Check out what the contents look like before buying it. I may just go to my local pool store now.
