Homemade dual T8 fixture?

Anyone ever taken those standard aquarium fixtures and modified them to make a double fixture? I have three 24 inch ones I've collected and would like to use two on a 20H tank, but don't want the bulk--it would be a pain to get at the water for feedings. Any ideas? This is for a lower light tank, but was hoping to use both a floramax and full-spectrum bulb at once. I have three like this one to use for parts.

It's called "pittbully13's DIY hood conversion by brookster " it was his original build, I just documented mine.. It's about a month old.. I'm on my phone so I can't post links..
